DON'T UNDERSTAND YOUR TEAM'S SEED?
First read below, then contact both of our schedulers (chris@jamball.com and ron@jamball.com) if you still need extra clarification.
No tournament games are scheduled until ALL standings have been finalized. For the approximate dates, please see our upcoming events section.
Teams 9th grade and up play in a single elimination tournament. Teams 3rd through 8th grade are guaranteed 2 games. Your first game is a play in game to determine which side of the bracket you go to. There are two sides, a consolation and a winners bracket. If you win your first game you go into the winners bracket but if you lose the first one you go into the consolation side.
In the event of a tie in standings, the following criteria are used in this order:
[EXAMPLE] A traditional bracket for 11 teams would have you guys (the #7 seed) playing a first round game against the 10th seed to see who moves on to play the #2 seed in the second round. In essence, we assumed that you guys beat the 10 seed and moved on to play the 7 seed, whom you are playing as it stands now.
[NOTE] As far as seeding a team moving up in a division, we always seed those teams in the middle of the pack because they are usually very good teams who got into a lower division at the start of the season and dominated. We would not want to seed them too low, because then the top seeds could run into them early in the brackets and this is not fair to the teams who have earned a high seed.

In the event of a tie in standings, the following criteria are used in this order:
(1.) Head-to-head competition - If there are three or more teams involved in a tie, the best head to head record with only those a team is tied with will determine the higher seed. The brackets are set up a bit differently than a traditional bracket might be so that every team plays in the first round - unless there is an odd amount of teams in a division, in which case a first round bye is awarded. It is done this way to allow for a consolation side of the bracket. If you're completely perplexed, try playing out who wins each game based on seed. At first it will seem random, but after a round or two you will get the traditional [1 versus 4] and [2 versus 3] matchups.
(2.) Quality of Wins - Basically, add up the winning percentage of all of the teams you have beaten and divide it by the number of wins.
(3.) Strength of Schedule - If tie-breakers #1 and #2 fail to decide a winner, this is used. Basically, add up the winning percentages of the team's you have played and divide it by the number of games played.
(4.) Coin Flip - If #1, #,2 #3 fail to decide a winner, this is used. Basically, take any coin, put it on your thumb and give it an end-over end toss.
