J.A.M. Newsletter: 07/23/14

Dear Coach, Parents, Players

Hope your summer months are enjoyable. This month’s addition of the JAM newsletter focus is “Surfs Up – Ride the Momentum Wave.” Registration for the 22nd Annual Fall League is now available on-line. Please register for early discounts. Summer camps and tournaments have been great events.

Our August Back to School Kick off Tournament for organizations and schools will feature a team fundraiser kick back. Groups/Schools with 3 or more teams entered in the tournament will receive door fee kick back. Door fees will cover tournament staff. The remainder of door charges will be divided as a kick back to the teams. Remember this incentive is for organizations or schools with 3 or more teams entered. Cost of the tournament is $300 – for 4 game guaranteed tournaments.

Remember Our #1 priority for JAM continues helping coaches and parents build confidence in today’s youth. Continue setting goals to make sure plans are in line to improve your game.

Stay tuned each month for an additional newsletter.

Surfs Up – Ride The Momentum Wave - Staying motivated! The lifelong question for all of us: How can I keep myself motivated long term? This seems to be quite a common dilemma for many people so let’s address the big MO – because it can be done!

Every day – We Must Take Initiative. Our basic nature is to act, and not to be acted upon. Becoming self-reliant empowers us with the ability to create our own circumstances. Taking the initiative means to recognize our responsibility to make things happen. One certain way to become a better basketball player, student, or business professional is to seize the initiative to do whatever is necessary. Be consistent with correct principles and then straight get the job done. Although proactive muscles may be dormant, they are there.

Have A Vision – The difference between people who exercise vision and those who don’t is literally the difference between night and day. It takes vision to create the balance of effectiveness in our lives. Set out a vision and a strategy for getting there. Have a plan and work the plan.

Fuel Your Passion – Much of motivation is emotional. Emotion is a powerful force in getting us going. Passion is an emotion, so fuel you passion. Set your self on a course to have a consuming desire for your goal, whatever it is. Do whatever you can to feel the emotion and use it to your advantage!

Work Hard Enough To Get Results – The harder you work, the more results you will see. If you want to gain court time, learn to defend, pass, handle the rock, build business skills, taking the path of least resistance will not get you there. The hard work road of the less traveled is the only path. One step at a time climb the staircase of hard work.

Put Good Materials Into Your Mind – Our circles of influence play a significant role in our ability to become or stay motivated. This circle of influence must be proactive and positive. Listening to other accomplishments motivates many to create their own success. Choose friends wisely! Coach Bill Peterson once said, “Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.”

Ride The Momentum When It Comes - Sometimes life will roll smooth and sometimes it won’t. It is all a cycle. When things don’t seem to be operating smoothly and obstacles of adversity seem insurmountable, plug away. When things are in a groove, pour it on because momentum will help you get larger gains in a shorter period of time with less energy. That is the momentum equation. Remember these simple principles. Like Famous basketball star Bill Walton said, “Life is like the ocean. In order to survive, you must learn to ride the waves.”

A Word to the Wise
"Some of our biggest mistakes are responsible for some of our greatest accomplishments. "
