Dear Coaches, parents, and players,
Welcome to our final fall 2011 weekly edition to the JAM Basketball Newsletter. This newsletter is geared to give all of our coaches and players who are looking to improve, an inside look at our basketball program. Every month we will stay the course including drills, play sets, quotes, articles, and announcements that you will be able to implement in your program.
- Mark Sharpley
One of UCLA legendary Coach John Wooden’s favorite mantras was “The Journey Is Greater Than The Inn.” Cervantes’ intention, as Wooden explained, is while we might possess ultimate goals in our lives, it is not obtaining these goals that should be our measuring stick of success. Instead our personal joy and fulfillment must be found in the day-to-day habits we build as we work towards the goals.
Please understand as a team that the actions and effort put forth in October will have a direct impact on the way your team performs during the winter months. Building the right habits in practice, as well as eliminating the bad ones, is a timely process that great players take pride in. Jerry West once said, “Success comes when preparation meets opportunity.” The preparation is the journey that we take, the small steps that we make each day towards our ultimate goal of becoming the best TEAM that you are capable of.
Have a great post season tournament. Don’t forget to sign up for the Halloween Monster Bash and the Dave Hopla Shooting Clinic. Look for our next publication before Thanksgiving!
