Hey guys! Tournament time is quickly approaching. There are some important items to add for your to-do list: Please make sure your coach has completed a team evaluation of strengths and weaknesses for our program write up. Review all roster changes and get them into the office. And please remember our request of staying respectful to the referees and our facilities, creating an enjoyable atmosphere for your children during these last few weeks, and remain encouraging to all the players as they set goals for improvement.
Our goal is to get everything perfect for all of our teams, parents, coaches, and players. We do fail on occasion, and we apologize for those moments. We've had a couple just this weekend, but that still doesn't distract us from our goal. Every time we fall, we rise again... so that we can keep providing the best basketball environment we can for all of you.
There are two types of goals. Outcome goals give you direction, such as winning or making a particular play. Process goals include mastering the fundamentals and strategy to be competitive in basketball. You dramatically increase your chances of making a basket by focusing on the process and letting the outcome take care of itself. When you focus on the outcome, you open yourself up to the fear of missing or losing. If you make a bad play or make a mistake, it is easier to become angry. Fear and anger are negative emotions that adversely affect your brain's chemistry and performance. You will be more relaxed and efficient by focusing on instinctive execution, rather than thinking about scoring or winning. So while you may not be able to control the outcome, you can control your thoughts and actions to improve the process. Success in mastering the process builds confidence and makes it easier to achieve your desired outcome.
And Please Remember why you became a part of a team. Remember why you were asked to participate on a team. The goal was (and still is) to accomplish a worthwhile task. Ask yourself these questions and more...
-
What is the purpose of the team?
-
Is it a event that interests me?
-
Who will be on the team with me?
-
What kind of authority will we have?
-
Is it important to my overall growth as a student/athlete?
-
What is the reward for participating?
-
What is the risk (perceived as punishment) for not participating?
-
How long will it run?
-
Will I be better off as a result of my participation?
